Local councillors call on Transport Minister to visit Nottingham
Following last week's Adjournment debate in the House of Commons in which Lillian Greenwood the Nottingham South MP raised the critical importance of plans to widen the A453, Councillors from across the political spectrum at Nottingham City Council have welcomed and endorsed her invitation to the Transport Minister Norman Baker MP to visit Nottingham and see first hand the local transport issues the city faces. read more
The University of Reading has won funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) that will allow some of its students to engage in summer internships at local businesses this summer.
The internships will support the recommendations of last year's government report from the Panel on Fair Access to the Professions by helping to overcome some of the obstacles to participation in the professions amongst under-represented groups.

There's no summer break for the staff at the newly formed Reading College. Everyone is busy behind the scenes ensuring that the new merger between Thames Valley University, Oxford & Cherwell Valley College and the Learning and Skills Network offers students and businesses experiences and opportunities greater than the sum of its parts.
We managed to grab five spare minutes with Sally Dicketts, principal of the newly formed college, and she explained the reasoning behind the changes as well as throwing new light on the role the organisation is going to play in adding to Reading’s continued development.
She said: "Increasingly employers recognise that effective training adds money to the bottom line.
The further education college in Reading is due to transfer to a new provider on 1 August 2010.
Thames Valley University (TVU) will transfer its further education provision in Reading to Reading College, a new partnership between Oxford & Cherwell Valley College (OCVC) and the Learning and Skills Network (LSN).

Taking place 27-29 August, this year's annual Reading Festival should once again prove to be a massive economic boost for the town.
An economic impact assessment of last year's event suggested that the gross spend associated with the festival was over £31 million, with in excess of £16 million of that being spent in the Reading area.

Jamie Kerr, director of regeneration and education at John Laing, used the recent SocInvest regeneration finance conference to highlight the successes of his company's urban regeneration vehicle agreement in Croydon.
He said: "CCURV works. It is the only show in town. Why not get the private sector involved sooner? Projects are on the ground in Croydon and results will be seen after the upturn."
